Display Cases & Trophy Cases

5 answered questionsAsk a question
Whether you are selling products or showcasing items, presentation matters. Display cases are designed to ensure that whatever you place inside is presented in the best possible way. They draw the eye and give you a blank canvas to exhibit items to your guests, team members and customers.

Selling products, showcasing awards, rounding out an interior design—display cases give you the perfect space to attract attention to what matters. It’s important to remember, though, that different display case designs are best suited for different applications. While every display case “displays” what’s inside, there are plenty of variations to choose from.

At Modern Office, you will find a wide variety of display cabinets and cases, including retail display cases, large display cases, trophy cabinets and more. The following guide can help you figure out exactly what type of display case is right for you and your organization! View More

Display Case Buying Guide

The basic design of a display case is simple—a clear case with shelves inside. But there are many variations made to address factors like product/object types, space constraints and other functional and aesthetic concerns. A case that’s perfect for showing off a single large item is going to be quite a bit different than one made to showcase many smaller items, for example.

Let’s look at some of the key factors to consider when buying a display case:

Visibility/Vision

Display cases & cabinets come in a variety of configurations to allow full or partial visibility of what’s inside. Some of the most popular options include:

  • Full-vision
  • Three-quarter vision
  • Half-vision
  • Quarter-vision

Sometimes you only want part of the interior to be visible. For example, if you used a display case to house both products for sale and computer equipment for your sales register, you might want to obscure the portion that contained unsightly cables, power strips, etc.

Design

There are multiple display case designs available, including:

  • Retail display counters – Usually larger, free-standing store display cases that can hold large amounts of merchandise. Appropriate for checkout areas and for holding valuable items.
  • Merchandise/trophy display cabinets. Feature multi-tier shelving, often adjustable, for displaying merchandise, trophies, collectibles and other items.
  • Pedestal cases. Display cases on pedestal bases that showcase important items, often used for more valuable items and showpieces. Elevates items which makes them easier to see.
  • Small displays. Smaller display cases can be placed on counters or larger display cases. Often used to display smaller merchandise and placed near checkouts.

Lighting

The clear sides and tops of display cases are designed to let viewers see the objects inside as clearly as possible. But in many situations having clear enclosures is still not enough to show items as clearly or as attractively as possible. That’s why premium display cases feature integrated interior lighting. For those that don’t, it’s a good idea to consider adding lighting.

Popular lighting options include overhead spotlights, uplighting/bottom-lighting and base and side lighting.

Display Case Materials

There are two materials to definitely consider when choosing a display case:

  • Acrylic. Often referred to as plexiglass, acrylic is affordable and offers better impact resistance than glass. Acrylic also weighs less than glass, which makes it easier to move the case. Recycled acrylic is an option for those who want this material but want to reduce their environmental impact.
  • Glass. Plate glass is more economical than tempered glass, but the latter is more impact-resistant. A glass display case can be made frameless by gluing the glass panels together, creating a seamless look. A glass display cabinet is more scratch-resistant and can provide better UV protection than most acrylics.

Base Materials

Base materials can include:

  • Wood
  • Metal
  • Plastic
  • Glass

The base material can make the case appear more luxurious or more practical, making it another important choice in selecting a case.

The materials you select for your conference table impact the durability and aesthetics of your table. Oftentimes, the materials that a user chooses for their table are influenced by their budget. Laminate is a very popular conference table material. Known for its scratch and stain resistance, as well as its long-lasting durability, laminate is a cost effective solution that most customers opt for. Wood veneer tables offer a true real wood look at a lower price than solid wood, but with more risks of chipping due to the nature of veneer. To choose the right conference table, consider the size of the room and the number of people it needs to accommodate, ensuring there's enough space for movement and comfort. Select a shape that complements the room layout and enhances communication, such as a rectangular table for formal settings or a round table for collaborative environments. Additionally, consider materials and design that match the aesthetic of the office and are durable for long-term use.
