The most common type of stool is a Drafting Stool, which is designed for use with a Drafting Table. It features the appropriate height range for a taller surface. Other stools include Lab Stools, Art Stools, Teller Stools, Workbench Stools, and more. The height or height range of the stool is the main feature that differentiates it from a standard Swivel Chair. The general rule is that the desk surface will be about 10" above the height of the seat of the chair or stool. So for example, if you have a 42" high surface your stool should have a height range that includes 32" (42 minus 10).
